| Morgan and Team 5R made the trek to Ark-La-Tex Speedway last weekend for the Doug Murphrey Memorial $5K to win race. Mo Bags and team continued to test some new ideas on Friday night during practice and time trials, and ended up 19th on the speed charts out of 58 cars on Friday. Saturday saw another 40 cars show up at Gene Boyter's facility for the big show. Morgan started 10th in his heat and raced to a 4th placed finish, accumulating some valuable passing points. The top two cars in passing points through the heats were locked into the race, with the remaining 96 cars battling for a spot in the main through last chance races. Morgan and the 5R took the track starting 4th in the last chance race and was unable to advance. Three cars were transferred to the A Main, and Morgan came home with a 4th place finish. When asked about his synopsis of the weekend Morgan said, "Our new ideas have been working really well and we have seemed to find more corner speed in the 5R. We still need to tweak our setup a bit for this track as we seem to struggle a little with forward bite off the corner. We will keep working hard, as our main focus is being ready for the USMTS Speedweek coming up next week."
Team 5R will tackle some tough competition again this week in USMTS action. Morgan currently sits 35 markers out of 2nd place in the Castle Rock Recruiting Southern Series points. The team has some lofty goals for these four races as the past month of testing has been very valuable in the performance of the 5R. Check the schedule and follow Team 5R this week for some great racing, not to mention two tracks that Morgan has a lot of laps on, Boothill Speedway and Lone Star Speedway. |
